About our cacao
Sourcing and ethics of our cacao
At CacowGirls we work with ceremonial cacao that is grown, processed and paid for with care. We choose partners who work from tree to bar and from bean to bar and who stay in direct relationship with small farming families. This way you can drink cacao that feels good in your body and also carries a story that feels right.
Amma Cacao from South India
Our Indian cacao from Amma Cacao grows in mountain regions in South India. The cacao trees stand in family gardens among spices and other crops. Farmers work on a small scale with attention for soil, water and biodiversity around them.
Tree to bar means that the same team guides the whole journey of the cacao. From the tree and the harvest of the pods to fermentation, drying in the sun, selecting the beans and grinding them into a smooth cacao paste. Nothing unnecessary is taken out and nothing artificial is added. You drink cacao in the way the tree created it.
ORA cacao from different lands
The ORA cacao we offer comes from different countries and each flavour carries its own story about the farmers and the land. Every cup connects you with a different origin, a different landscape and a different community.
- Thriving Tanzania is made with cacao from regions in Tanzania where partners work with local farmers on stable income and long term soil care.
- Uplifting Uganda supports farming communities in Uganda and helps build a more resilient cacao economy.
- Oaxacan Spice is connected with cacao farmers in Mexico and carries the deep tradition of cacao in that region.
- Tantric Rose Blossom blends cacao with botanicals and stories from different cacao growing areas.
- Vibrant Vitality combines vibrant cacao with projects that help farmers grow in strength and resilience.
Each ORA cacao flavour has its own country, its own farmers and its own agreements about price and cooperation. You taste a different flavour and you also meet a different relationship with land and people through every cup.
Direct relationships and fair prices
We choose cacao where there are as few anonymous links as possible between farmer and drinker. This means long term relationships, clear agreements and real attention for the reality of farmers in tropical regions. The price paid for the cacao sits above common commodity prices and allows more space for a dignified life.
When cacao is sourced in this way, farmers can invest in their land, in their families and in the future of their communities.
Climate and resilience for farmers
In many cacao regions the climate is changing. Farmers deal with more extreme weather, floods or droughts and sickness in the trees. Some of our sourcing partners build funds and projects that help farmers recover and move towards more resilient ways of growing cacao.
Ceremonial cacao then becomes more than a product. It becomes a way to support the communities that stand at the root of your rituals.
What this means for your cup of cacao
- You drink cacao from carefully selected beans with attention for fermentation and drying.
- You support small farming families and local communities in different countries.
- You choose cacao that contributes to living soil and more biodiversity.
- Your ritual is connected to a transparent and more ethical supply chain.
Every time you prepare a cup of ceremonial cacao or melt an Amma Bar, you become part of a larger story. A story of trees, farmers, lands and hands that all work together so this plant medicine can reach your altar.
