What you may find in a cacao set
The contents vary per set, but many include a combination of:
- Ceremonial cacao or cacao bars
- An intention or ritual card
- Incense or a smudge stick from our Sacred Elements collection
- Blue Lotus
Below you’ll find a simple explanation of each element and how you can use it.
Incense and smudge sticks
A smudge stick is a small bundle of dried herbs that you briefly light. The smoke has traditionally been used to mark a moment. Many people use it to shift gears. From the day into rest. From busyness into stillness.
In some of our sets you’ll find incense or smudge sticks from the Sacred Elements collection. This is a collaboration we’re proud of. Sacred Elements works with natural ingredients and produces their incense in an artisanal way in India.
You might use it:
- At the start of your cacao moment
- To gently shift the energy of your space
- As a calm closing at the end
How to use a smudge stick
- Briefly light the smudge stick
- Blow out the flame so it softly smokes
- Move the smoke gently around you or through the space
- Place the stick safely in a heat-resistant bowl
Curious about the different scents and blends. You’ll find them in the Sacred Elements collection.
Blue Lotus
Blue Lotus is a flower that has been used for centuries for relaxation and stillness. Many people experience her as soft and calming. Not heavy. Not overwhelming. More like a gentle layer over the evening.
Blue Lotus is often described as:
- Relaxing for the body
- Soothing for the mind
- Supportive for meditation or winding down before sleep
How to use Blue Lotus
The most common way is as an infusion. You can use it on its own, or as a base for your cacao.
Blue Lotus as an infusion
- Take a small amount of Blue Lotus
- Pour over warm, not boiling, water
- Let it steep for 5 to 10 minutes
- Drink slowly, or use the infusion as the base for your cacao
Many people use this infusion to prepare their cacao. It can make the experience feel rounder. Softer. More oriented toward relaxation.
Want to learn how to combine this with cacao. Take a look at how to prepare ceremonial cacao or visit the recipes page.
Start small and discover what feels right for you. There’s no need to do it perfectly.
Everything together as one moment
You can use each element on its own. Together, they form a calm and gentle flow. This is a simple order many people enjoy.
- Light your incense or smudge stick
- Prepare cacao, or cacao with Blue Lotus infusion
- Read the card and choose one intention
- Drink slowly and take your time
Sometimes it feels like a ritual. Sometimes it’s simply a good cup of cacao with a bit more attention. Both are perfectly fine.
